I did this almost 2 weeks ago, but didn't have time to post. This is just a preview so certain elements may change. For example, the background image is currently a digitally manipulated stock photo ([link] by ~DestroyingAngels) which will likely be replaced with a traditional painting. Also, I am considering repainting Dru, the ghostly spirit in the back (you may recognize the image from my gallery), to match the style of Mannix in the foreground.
Your thoughts, suggestions and critiques are, as always, most welcome!
Thanks! She is already like 95% transparent (layer-wise) in that image -- unfortunately, any less opaque and she just washes out with the busy background -- at least in this incarnation of the cover. I really appreciate your suggestion though!
I started using Oshouki as a screen name and alias way before I decided to pursue to be actually published. But I know what you mean and here's my dilemma: Daniel Oshouki Wong would be too damn long. I lose the Oshouki "branding" if I just use Daniel Wong. Just Oshouki may be confusing and looks kinda out of place with the full name of the writer just above it.....I have such a hard time deciding things lately...
Gotta say the background's a good pick for Dru since it matches her colors, but now the protagonist looks lonely. hehe
I've also got to comment on the superb coloring of Mannix. First time I see him colored and I am in awe. Mainly by the variety of colors you've used, as in the hair. It's good to see work with more effort than basic colors. I also favor your coloring style with no noticeable outlining. That also makes the figures blend better into the background.
I've been envious of the numerous digital painters on dA for a long while and decided it's a skill I want to acquire -- painting without lines. This is the first one (of many that will never see the light of day) that I'm satisfied with. And the variety of colour in the hair is pretty much accidental -- came out as a result of tweaking sat-hue-etc. after I finished.
Thank you so much for your compliments and (as always) for noticing the details.
Some people have been asking me about this stuff so I decided to gather all information in one single article on how to make your own portfolio, in a profesional and clean looking way. I hope it's useful, because these steps I myself take.
DeviantArt is full of extremely well produced artistic fashion and fine art photographs. Make up. Styling. Creation of scenery. Story. Light. Glamour. A combination of these expressions sometimes make up a great photograph. But the protagonists of these pictures are usually female.
So... now it's the time for male models to come into focus.
How to make DA work for YOU! Taking an in-depth look at how to make deviantART work for you, and getting the most out of your user experience. How to get comments, watches, your work scene, commented on, critiqued, and what you have to do. These are some of the things which I have learned since joining more than 4 1/2 years ago.
`karemelancholia is one of the most genuine deviants you could ever met. Always active and a true deviantART cheerleader and supporter in every aspect. You can always count on her to lend a hand or get involved, and you usually will find her doing large amounts of both at any given moment. She's consistently reports on contests around dA, showcases the efforts of her fellow artists and shows her charitable side through various activities. Besides all of this, she's a truly talented artist which is why she's an obvious choice for deviousness this month. Read More
